Female Desire

I took inspiration from the 1940's film "a Streetcar named desire" in which I was interested by Blanche, the main character and the development of her mental health and her dream world. I then became focused on the silhouette from the first trousers worn in the 1940's therefore, creating a tailored bottom. The print is my own design, initially hand done,to portray a mystical madness in a females mind. It still displays a lingerie aspect, as every women can use her sexual desires to get what she wants, as Blanche often does. The outfit creates a interesting contrast between 40's power dressing and deterioation of a young women's mental health.

Inspiration was taken from Ancient Egyptian burial art and rituals. The care that goes into preserving denim to withstand problematic elements is akin to that of preserving the body for its next stage in life. Blurred surfaces symbolise the shift of the individual from earthly existence to immortality.

Inspired by Fighstar's Grand Unification, basic concept of the song revolves around 2 people who experience the last few days of life together before the end of the world. Aimed to create a post apocalyptic mood.

Nouveau Navajo

The jeans and top were designed for DSquared2, a brand infamous for their playful and colourful take on fashion. Counting Navajo and the Wild West Plains of America as inspiration, the prints and colour really took focus in the garments, in addition to references to native crafts. Hand embroidered and cut-out silk satin details featured on the back pockets as well as the vibrant hand-dyed colour of the jeans but with a strong view to the future in the digital printing and streamlined silhouette. The tailored fit of the jeans is balanced with the loose proportions of the top which features biker jacket detailing but retains a feminine edge for the evening through the cut-out back. Rachael Houston, as featured above, served as my muse with her strong androgynous features and bold brows harking to the primitive beauty of the Navajo people but with a thoroughly modern outlook.

Get Waisted

After weeks of hard labour in the workshops our garments are complete. Tasked with designing an outfit comprising of a pair of jeans and a fashion forward top (for brands GStar/Dsquared/NudieJeans) we showed our finished garments to a small audience with our models walking to Justice.
